How to use the joule 2 Backup 1.9 to 2.0 Utility for a manual upload.

If you are coming from another LMS and converted all of your courses using Moodlerooms’ Course Converter block or via Moodlerooms provided services, those courses were converted to a Moodle 1.9 backup. You still need to get those files into a 2.0 format. To facilitate this process, Moodlerooms has developed a Backup 1.9 to 2.0 Utility. Operation of this utility is simple and straightforward.

Note: Manual upload of files is recommended when you only have a couple of “outlier” files requiring migration. Should you need to migrate multiple files or particularly large files, SFTP is highly recommended.

Locate the Setting block.

Click "Site administration"; then click "Moodlerooms" and finally Click "Convert 1.9 to 2.0 backups."

Upload the files.

1. Click the "Upload Moodle 1.9 backup file" button.

2. Select the "Choose a file" button and select a file from your hard drive or network for upload.

3. Click "Upload" once you have selected the file.

4. Repeat steps 2-3 for any additional files.

Request conversion to a 2.0 backup.

1. Tick the check box next to each course you wish to migrate. Use the Select All/None functionality, as required.

2. Click the "Submit request for processing" button.

Update the email address for request notification.

1. Delete support@moodlerooms.com from the Request notifications sent to field. Instead, enter your own email address into this field. This will ensure that once the file migration is complete, you will be notified via email.

2. Click the "Submit request for processing" button.

Receive backup notification in your email.

Shortly thereafter, you should receive an email from the Moodlerooms Support address indicating that your file(s) migrated, such as the message below.

View the migrated backups.

Click the "2.0 Backups (converted)" tab to view the migrated backups. If the migration is successful (as indicated by the email), the converted files should appear in the 2.0 Backups (converted) tab and the backup file should no longer be in the 1.9 Backups (ready) tab and instead be in the "1.9 Backups Archive (archived)" tab.

Note: Eventually, you will want to delete the archived backup files after they have been converted. This will save you server space and money.

Copy the files to site backups or restore them.

At this juncture, you need to make a decision as to what you wish to do with the migrated 2.0 backups. Do you wish to restore them to your site or do you wish to keep them archived and potentially move them to your site backup location?

To copy the files to the site backups:
1. Tick the check box next to the files you wish to move.

2. Select "Copy to site backups" from the Select drop-down at the bottom of the page.

To restore the files to the site:
1. Tick the check box next to the files you wish to restore.

2. Select "Restore" from the Select drop-down at the bottom of the page.

3. Click the "Restore into this category" drop-down menu and select the category for the files to reside. Make sure that all files you wish to restore are checked. Leave the un-attended operation check box checked, unless you wish to manually restore each and every file. Running the restore as an unattended operation will save you significant time and is highly recommended. You can always make changes to the course settings at a later date.

4. Click "Restore now." The restore process will begin and may take some time.

Repeat this process for any additional files you wish to migrate from a 1.9 backup to 2.0.
